Hello, dear readers!
Today, I wanted to share one of my favorite pastimes with you… watercoloring! It’s something that I credit to keeping my stress levels down and my mind open. I don’t use anything expensive, in fact I bought most of my supplies from, art supply store, Michaels (with coupons)! Typically, after I put my little girl to bed, I spend time just randomly painting. Sometimes it turns into a driven piece that I feel connected to and build on for a few more nights and other times I'm just plain ol' doodling. In both cases, it is something that truly rejuvenates me. One project that is a constant for me, is our refrigerator calendar! I love the feeling of each season and holiday, and I’ve found that most of my doodling tends to lean towards whatever time of year it is, so naturally making a quick at-a-glance calendar was right up my alley! Here are two favorites of my more recent ones.
Since February is RIGHT around the corner, I couldn't wait any longer, so I jumped right into it! I love the pinks, reds and purples of this little holiday season and decided to throw it all on the page. I mixed few of those colors with more water than I typically do, to really thin out the colors. I layered the colors on top of each other in small, mostly oval and circle shapes. Once they were on the paper, I would quickly blot them with a paper towel to further remove the color. I did this over and over again till I was happy with what I had created. Once it was dry, I used my beloved Tombow pen to finish it off.
I loved the finished product! I think the most important thing about this, is too make mistakes. It may sound counterproductive, but it's in the mistakes where I really begin to see everything and learn about myself as an artist. As Yoda says, "The greatest teacher, failure is."
What do you do after a long day that keeps your stress at bay? Is it projects, exercise or just vegging out with all of our bff, Netflix (thats another one of my favorites)? Let me know in the comments section and lets discuss!
Until next time!
